About this programme
Improv for Coaches uses improvisation principles and theatre-based techniques to develop core coaching skills, particularly in listening, responding authentically, and maintaining presence during client conversations. The program is built on the premise that improvisation fundamentally mirrors coaching practice—both require presence, active listening, and trust in the moment rather than pre-planned responses. Participants work with techniques from theatre and comedy adapted specifically for coaching contexts, developing capabilities in areas such as open questioning, precise reflection, skillful interruption, and communication succinctness. Led by Amy and Betsy of BNA Mentor Coaching, the program creates a small community of coaches who build trust together while exploring how playfulness, non-judgment, and creative freedom integrate with ICF and NBHWC core competencies. The approach emphasizes bringing coaches into a calm, resourceful state and strengthening their ability to discern and reflect client values and strengths with greater accuracy and empathy.
